What is the Camino?

The Camino de Santiago's history is one of a pilgrimage ending in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela where the remains of Saint James are buried.

Over time the religious pilgrimage has changed, with people from all over the world (over 300,000 per year) walking one of many different routes into Santiago for reasons of their own; Religious, Spiritual, Social or even health.

I walked the most popular route - The Camino Frances - in 2022. This route starts in France crossing the Pyrenees into Spain and covering 779 km. The route is built for pilgrims with excellent supporting infrastructure of accommodations and eateries.  It is a great, safe environment for everyone where you can build a "Camino Family" of people around you that will support you each day.

There are many other routes, several now growing in popularity as the Frances becomes busier and people seek a less crowded route.

In these pages you can follow journeys on different paths of the Camino.
