After a nice birthday and relaxing spa day, we woke and had a great breakfast including fresh home made baked cheesecake at the hotel in Moana. It was a good way to start the day.
We had a taxi booked for 10 which took us around the big estuary near to redondella to resume our Camino.
Vigo is the 100km point, whilst redondella is the point where the portuguese coastal path (which we were on) joined the more populer portuguese central camino.
And this we could tell.
All of sudden the path is full of pilgrims with back packs, the cafes and bars have much more camino based stuff for sale. It is similar to reaching Sarria on the Camino Frances - a massive influx of both seasoned pilgrims and "tourist" pilgrims who send big suitcases forward and have a face full of make up, brand new trainers and a day sack with just snacks and water. Its great they are walking 100km and experiancing the Camino, but it makes everything seem busier and less relaxing.
The path itself was great, moving away from the coast and into woodland. We followed and alternate route for 3 or 4 km which wound along a small river and was much more peaceful.
Overall it was a pleasant walk and broke is back in ready for the last few big days.
Pontevedra is a nice town and we had enough energy to explore. Mostly moving from somewhere with churros, to somewhere with beer, to somewhere with ice cream. Oh and a central square with a guy in a giant koala costume.
The strangest things....
Sleep well pilgrim. 3 more treks to go.
