Day 11 - 22.7km - Pontevedra to Caldas de Rei

Last 3 days. Medium today and long tomorrow. So we need to conserve energy and take it steady!

We started in pontevedra and went to a cafe called dulche de leche, they had a great poster with all different kinds of coffee. Why not mix up the espressos and have a caramel macchiato.

Nope.

The poster is for decoration. We do coffee. Or coffee with milk. At least the croissants were good!

After breakfast we walked out through the city and crossed over the river, walking through pretty ugly town outskirts until we hit the countryside again

The sun came out in full force so andrea applied suncream liberally to save the sun allergy and sun burn and we trotted onwards. The camino is following quiet tarmac roads now we are in spain. Much more forgiving than the cobblestones.

The increase in pilgrims is evident at our rest stop, when the queue for an orange juice took nearly 30 minutes. But you dont know when the next open cafe is so you have to wait.

It happened to be about 3 km further along the track and was empty so we stopped again.

I asked for a wine, got spoken at very rapidly in spanish by the bar owner about a glass and an irish couple in the corner chuckled and said whay type of glass? I looked confused and said a wine glass. So the lady went to the freezer, got out what looked like an ice cream bowl, filled it with a pretty unpleasant red wine and smiled and asked for a few euros.

After the bowl of wine (?!) We continued through the woodlands surround by small rows of grapevines until we arrived in Caldas De Rei.

The accomodation is lovely. With great gardens and a pool. After a swim and a relax on the hammocks in and old grain store we went for a nice simple spanish dinner. Chiperones for me and tortilla for Andrea.

Bed time now. 25.6km tomorrow according to the app. So probably nearer 30.
