Day 16 - Buxantes to Fisterra - 31km

Well pilgrims its the last day of walking. Our 16th day of consecutive marching will see us arrive at the end of the world at Finisterre lighthouse.

Our morning started with the same taxi driver picking us up (early so we didnt get to finish our coffee!!) He returned us to the small chapel where we finished last night. The weather was bag to grey and wet so the ponchos were on again. It seems to be cold grey mornings opening to sunny afternoons, so lets hope for more of the same.

The route took us through woods on gravelly tracks climbing up initially until after a few km we saw the ocean through the trees. We bumped into a young lady who had just finished the frances. Having quit her job before starting she was in no rush to go home and seemed a bit lost as to what to do next.

We walked together and chatted until we arrived at Cee after around 9km. The reviews and feel was Cafe Central was the place for breakfast. It was rammed full, but only seemed to serve poor coffee and luke warm churros, so we quickly changed to Titas Brunch. What a good option. It was gone 11 so why not have the burger "with plenty of finger licking cheese". I wasnt expecting it to be laid in an actual bath of cheese.

Stuffed, we set off again. The path now has two big hills before we reach the end as we follow the rugged coastline. We set out target on completing the first big hill and earning a cold refreshing reward by the beach.

We went up small alleyways, then a road through smaller towns until we peaked and had a great view back at where we had started the day and the hill we came down into Cee. The clouds were clearing now and the sun starting to show itself!

The downhill was gradual so we made great pace as we approached Estorde. A large restaurant with terrace right next to the beach was an ideal place for a drink, and was made better when we had a little love from a massive black lab sat chilling inside!

Now its on to the town of Fisterra where we are staying tonight - and 3km short of the worlds end.

Big hill up, amazing views, big hill down and we hit a massive curved beach. The last few km will be walking on sand. I had my shoes and socks off in seconds, but mum had to continue suffering socks and sandals to save getting sand and dirt in the open blisters.

We walked along coming for shells, bumping into Lisa halfway who was filming instagram stories for her next yoga retreat, and enjoying the now bright sun.

A pleasant beach walk done, we walked into Fisterra. We had a small beer and checked into our apartment, grabbing some glasses and wine from the shop as we started our last 3km.

Its busy here with tourists and pilgrims following the narrow path by the road where cars seem to aim for people, but in quick time we approached the finish line and hit the km0 marker! We have done it. A total camino distance of over 380km. We got some pictures and then found a nice space on the rocks to enjoy our wine. Which was ropey as hell so we went to the cafe for a beer instead, enjoying a chat with a group of guys who had met on camino and formed a strong bond - a Spaniard, a Korean, an Argentinien and a Columbian. Such a nice and open group who seemed to be friends with everyone.

We made our way back to town - whats another 3km walk between friends - showered at the apartment and went for dinner. We picked the highest rated place in the area for Pulpo as I wont be able to get it soon. It was expensive and disappointing. Not the end we had hoped for.

But after 16 days and 35 songs its eurovision time. At least UK winning will make up for the dinner. Here we go! Einz, zwei, drei....

Its been an incredible journey. Massive high points like the pilgrim blessing and path by the river, a boat ride with dolphins, dancing and singing around the dining table, and walking into santiago as pilgrims, more than make up for the low points (mostly blisters to be fair!).

What a journey and im so lucky to have been able to share it with my Mum. Thank you for every step of this journey and all the others in life.
