Today is the longest walk of our trip so we rose early and had breakfast in the hotel with croissants and fillings sourced from Lidl last night.

We had a fantastic meal of prawns, sardines, salmon (and a cheeky belly pork dish) before walking to the nearest beach for sunset. It was NOT the picturesque portuguese sunset we had hoped for!

Anyway.... we headed out of matosinhos after finding a cafe for the caffiene fix (as there was none in the hotel) and crossed a big swing bridge over the river. The concrete promenades soon gave way to wooden boardwalks which made up most of the day. The way is flat and follows the coast with very little incline.

We passed through "fishermans row" small colourful houses surrounded by small fishing boats, nets and lobster pots.

As we walked the rocks gave way to beaches before turning back to rocks repeatdely, with the sea and waves ever crashing.

A short lunch break (involving lemon cheesecake) fueled us on.

We reached Vila do Conde where preparations are underway for the Sao Jaeo festival. With sound checks on the big open stage being built.

At around 25k this is where our energy started to wane. So we stopped for a sangria to get us going again for the last few km.

Today we are in a hostal with bunk beds. Though we didnt want the full camino experiance so it is at least a private room with one set of bunks in it.

A cracking burger for dinner for, and steak for andrea, will refuel our body ready for another day tomorrow.

Its been a long one and our uneven sun creme application is showing in various red patches.

Nothing a good 10- 12 hours sleep wont cure.....

Good Night peregrinos. See you tomorrow.
