After a good sleep we awoke reasonably early for breakfast at 7. That was promptly skipped as the room had mould in the corner - and in the conserves!! A bit of a let down after Casa Fernandez but we are rested and ready to rock and roll.
The walk started so much nicer today with paths through the woods, the first 4km wound gradually uphill, passing a wooden hunting tower where we got some great views and a few nice photos!
We kept leapfrogging Stefan (the snorer) and his son Ilyan. Ilyan is struggling with the walk after they started with a few big days. His hips and feet are struggling but he is determined and they are moving well.
About 7km in we stopped for a nice breakfast with them, along with Caroline a french canadian who shared our accomodation last night. An omelette and toasty shared we had the energy for the day!
The path was lovely, winding through the woods and small villages. Caroline had told us of a recommended lunch spot in around 10km at one point so we counted down as we headed there. The spot was stunning a hotel with pool and hot tub thay served is some charcuterie followed by salad, super crispy potatoes and some chicken schnitzel with a beer for 12 euro. The rooms here are less than we paid last night which is a bit sickening. If we didnt have a booking we may well have stayed...
Instead we marched on to Valenca for our last beer in portugal. The town is wonderful with a massive roman fort on the hill side overlooking the river. We had a nice walk here with caroline after lunch but she was staying here so we parted ways, made our way down to the river and crossed into Spain. Tonight we are staying in Tui the first spanish town and at just over 100km from santiago it is a starting point for a lot of pilgrims.
We need to eat, do laundry and sleep ready for a busy day tomorrrow!
Lets hope there arent too many tourists!!
